Tommies Add Local Runner Lauren Evans to Cross Country Roster
The St. Thomas University Tommies are excited to welcome distance runner Lauren Evans to the cross country program ahead of the upcoming season.
Hailing from Oromocto, New Brunswick, she brings eight years of competitive running experience through Oromocto High School and the Fredericton Reds Track program. A consistent presence on the local running scene, she most recently competed at the 2025 Cross Country Championships, finishing the 6km race in 28:33, and at High School Provincials with a 5km time of 22:41. With a strong foundation already in place, Lauren is eager to take the next step in their development at STU.
She is known for her dedication and reliability, the Oromocto native is set to add consistency and commitment.
“I’m really looking forward to starting at STU in the fall and continuing to grow as an athlete within the program,” she shared. “I’m excited to further my training and contribute positively to the team environment.”
Lauren's decision to choose St. Thomas University was driven by the institution’s academic and community-focused strengths.
“I chose St. Thomas because of the small class sizes and the emphasis on a strong, connected community,” she said. “That environment really stood out to me and aligns well with how I learn and grow.”
Academically, she plans to pursue a Bachelor of Arts and Education, pairing her athletic goals with a clear passion for mentorship and learning. That passion extends beyond the classroom and the course, as Lauren is actively involved in the local running community as an assistant coach for middle school athletics.
“I’m passionate about fostering a love of running in young athletes,” she explained. “When I’m not training, I’m usually at the track or helping out in the community.”
Looking ahead to her time with the Tommies, she is particularly enthusiastic about working under the guidance of Head Coach Nick.
“I’m excited to train for Coach Nick because of his expertise and dedication to the sport,” she said. “I’m confident this program will help me grow both as a runner and as a person.”
The Tommies are thrilled to welcome this driven, community-minded athlete to St. Thomas University and look forward to the passion Lauren will bring to the cross country program and campus community.
