Tommies Add AUS Champion Wilton to Class of 2026 | CBU Transfer
Fredericton, NB - The St. Thomas University women’s soccer program is pleased to announce the commitment of Katelyn Wilton for the upcoming 2026 season. The Halifax, Nova Scotia native joins the Tommies as a left wingback and will begin her studies in Social Work this September.
Wilton arrives at STU from Cape Breton University, bringing valuable university-level experience to a Tommies squad looking to build on its competitive foundation in the ACAA.
Known for her composure on the ball and ability to impact both ends of the pitch, Wilton adds another important piece to STU’s roster. Her transition to Fredericton comes after completing her undergraduate degree at CBU this past spring, and she says the decision to continue both her academic and athletic career at St. Thomas felt natural from the start.
“I graduated in May from my undergrad at CBU and knew my next steps had to be at another smaller university because I loved the small classes and actually getting to know your professors,” said Wilton. “When I came up for the recruitment weekend in February, I fell in love with STU right away. The team and coaches were so supportive and welcoming, and I could tell immediately how strong the environment was.”
Wilton will pursue Social Work at STU, with aspirations of becoming a Child Protective Services social worker — a path she says was influenced by hearing strong praise for the university’s program from professionals already in the field.
Her first impression of the Tommies program left a lasting mark.
“The girls on the team were extremely welcoming and friendly. During my application process, David and the coaching staff helped me so much and were always there to support me,” she added. “That really showed me how caring this team environment is, and I’m beyond thankful.”
Off the pitch, Wilton carries a unique soccer identity. Despite her first name being Katelyn, she has gone by the nickname “Jimmy” since U6, a name that has stuck throughout her career.
"We are thrilled to bring in a positive personality like Jimmy to our group. She will make an immediate impact on the team, and her speed, left foot, and work ethic will be evident from day one. During her recruit visit, it was also wonderful getting the chance to meet her family, who were incredibly welcoming and supportive throughout the process." - Head Coach David Itoafa.
As the Tommies continue strengthening their roster ahead of the 2026 campaign, Wilton’s experience and defensive quality will be a welcome addition to the squad both on and off the field.
