STU Tommies Add Manitoba's Calib Spence to Men's Volleyball Roster

Fredericton, N.B. – The St. Thomas University (STU) Tommies Men's Volleyball program has strengthened its roster with the addition of Calib Spence of Winnipeg, Manitoba, for the upcoming season.

Spence, a 6-foot-1 athlete from 204 Volleyball Club, will study Social Entrepreneurship while continuing his volleyball career with the Tommies.

Spence is known for his competitive mindset, a quality he believes defines his game.

"I would say my biggest strength is my work ethic," said Spence. "Laying out for balls and never giving up on the play is something I strive to bring at any level of volleyball I play."

He also hopes to make an immediate impact on the team's culture. 

"I want to bring determination and intensity every day, helping push my teammates and contribute to the winning culture that already exists within the program."

The Tommies sustained success made STU an easy choice for the Winnipeg native.

"The outstanding record in the ACAA is very attractive and not something that is done easily," said Spence. "I hope I can help maintain and continue the greatness this program has upheld throughout the years."

Head coach Henri Mallet is excited to welcome Spence to the program.

"Calib is the type of player every coach wants on their side," said Mallet. "His competitive level and willingness to do the little things stand out right away. He brings tremendous energy, works hard on every point, and has the mindset to continue improving. We're excited to see the impact he'll have on our culture and our pursuit of another championship."

Spence's goals extend beyond individual development, as he hopes to help the Tommies compete for another national championship while continuing to elevate his own game.

"My goal is to bring intensity going into this season and bring a different perspective to the team while hopefully competing for a national title," he said. "I hope to learn a lot, improve all aspects of my game, and continue to grow as an athlete."

The STU Tommies are excited to welcome Calib to Fredericton and look forward to seeing him represent the green and gold in the seasons ahead.
