John Hickey Takes Home ACAA Coach of the Year
The St. Thomas University Tommies will begin their ACAA Championship hunt in a battle with the Mount Allison University Mounties at the Lady Beaverbrook Gym. They'll be led by multiple key assets, such as the ACAA Player of the Year, Defensive Player of the Year, All-Conference Stars, CCAA All-Canadians and now - an ACAA Coach of the Year - John Hickey.
Hickey joined the Tommies in 2019 and has since built the Tommies to a championship contender and CCAA Nationally ranked team. After leading STU to the 2021-22 ACAA finals, he's put them in position to be right back in the big game. The Tommies finished first in the ACAA with a 13-5 record and had one of the top offenses in the ACAA, averaging 92 points per game, second highest in the league. Hickey has built a team that is lethal from any part of the floor - the Tommies shot 39% from beyond-the-arc, the highest in the ACAA.
Michael Eagles, STU Athletics Director, said he couldn't be more excited of the recogition Hickey has earned from the success he's brought to the Men's basketball program.
"I am so pleased to see John recognized by his peers," Eagles said. "He has done a great job with our program."
