The St. Thomas University Tommies women's volleyball team will gain versatility and athleticism with the addition Miramichi's Marissa Hallihan.
Hallihan, a middle blocker from the Miramichi Valley High School and Miramichi Kaboom programs, is the third recruit to be announced by Tommies head coach Don McKay.
"I'm very pleased to add a third player from the Miramichi programs and I like that her coaches describe her as an athlete who gives 100 per cent, always doing her best and helping her teammates do the same," McKay said.
"Marissa is a strong athlete who uses her timing and quickness to excel in the front row. I believe she will be able to play all three front row positions and we're very excited that she chose STU."
Hallihan, who intends to pursue a major in Sociology, played a key role in the 2016-2017 MVHS Pulamoo championship run, coming up with big blocks and strong play in the back row. She's known as a quiet leader by her high school and club team coaches, and boasts a strong work ethic and commitment to the game.
"Marissa is a versatile player who can play any position you need her to," Miramichi Kaboom coaches Carla Dickson and Toby Allain said. "She's able to think quickly and react which allows her to block well in the middle and attack the ball with force in whatever position she is playing."
High school coach Anne O'Neill MacDonnell agreed.
"Marissa is a quiet leader who lets her athleticism compass her game," she said. "She comes up with the big play just when it's needed."
Hallihan will join her MVHS and Miramichi Kaboom teammates Jolie Allain and Emily Dickson in the Tommies 2018 recruiting class.
