Emily Dickson is following in the footsteps of her older brothers Ryan and Garret as she exchanges the blue and gold of Miramichi Valley High School for the green and gold of the St. Thomas University Tommies.
Dickson, of Miramichi, NB, is set to join the Tommies women's volleyball program in the fall. Her brothers are members of the men's team and are fresh off a championship season with the Green and Gold.
The soon to be high school grad is a talented setter that STU head coach Don McKay believes will thrive in the Atlantic Collegiate Athletic Association.
"Emily is definitely one of the top high school setters and female athletes in New Brunswick. She's quick to the ball, loves to take control, and works the ball to the hot hitter that will give her team the best chance for success," he said.
"I have watched her develop for many years and I look forward to watching her grow at the ACAA level."
Dickson, who intends to study Psychology at STU, has played four years with the MVHS Pulamoo and led the team to the 2016-2017 'AAA' provincial title. She's also competed with the Miramichi Kaboom—the local club team—for six years and has represented New Brunswick as part of the Volleyball New Brunswick program.
High school coaches Ann O'Neill MacDonnell and Ashley Cortes said Dickson is a leader and fierce competitor.
"Emily is a leader who brings hard work and fun to the game. She will do anything in her power to make a play or a dig and the tenacity she shows on the floor makes her teammates want to follow."
Her club coaches, Toby Allain and Carla Dickson, agreed.
"Emily's competitive attitude helps bring her team to the next level," Allain said. "She's a confident player and is always ready to take on a challenge."
Dickson joins MVHS teammate Jolie Allain in the Tommies 2018 recruiting class.
