Athlete of the Month for January: Christian Christie, Men's Volleyball

Christian Christie, a first-year outside hitter from Langley, BC, is the STU Tommies Coastal Graphics Athlete of the Month for January.

The rookie has been a consistent threat for the Tommies men's volleyball team and averaged an impressive 10.6 kills and 5.8 digs per game last month.

"Christian has been great for us as a rookie all year, but he really stepped up his play in January. He helped us go 4-2 in the month, which included a win over first-place Holland College," Tommies head coach Henri Mallet said.

"He's obviously an offensive threat, but he's also a great blocker and server. We'll continue to rely on Christian being an important part of our team as we approach playoffs."

Christie is currently fourth in the Atlantic Collegiate Athletic Association in kills per set and boasts the conference's third-best hitting percentage (.241).

The Tommies sit in third place in the ACAA standings and have three games remaining before they host the 2017-2018 ACAA Volleyball Championships, February 23-25.
